And so it begins. I’ve started my travels, and what a start it’s been.
I have some drafts of what I wanted to post as I write this in a little Vietnamese, Indonesian cafe in North Shore, Auckland. The thing is, I wanted to have an initial “First Post” to set the tone for the blog. I’ve been meditating on the topic for a while now, months before I even began the trip. What kind of blog, if any, do I want to create? The overall vibe of the blog, the flow of the posts, the frequency, the content, the presentation of the content. It all quickly becomes overwhelming. With the creative freedom to control every single aspect of this project, it gets equally complex. Even without the creative aspects, just the technical parts of the blog had me sinking hours, trying to figuring out the hosting, routing, infrastructure, security, etc. For months, every time I broached the subject and tried to make headway, I found myself inundated in logistics, rabbit holes, and decision paralysis. Every time I eventually gave up.
Then, one day, I came upon a piece of advice that stuck with me. I’m not sure where I found it — there have been so many different videos, posts, and threads that it’s lost in the sea of content I’ve surfed somewhere — but the gist of it was this:
Just start writing. Doesn’t matter what it is, worry about the details later, just start, and don’t stop.
And so I did. Things started quickly falling into place after that. I sorted through a a few pages of stock themes and picked a few I liked. I wrote a little bit on each, getting a barebones page up and eventually fell on the Low-Fi theme as my choice. I stopped worrying about each and every detail before I even got to it and just started working with whatever worked for me in the moment.
The point is the content started flowing and it organically became this blog, this post, this moment of me sitting in this cafe writing this first post because I couldn’t figure it all out before the trip actually began. And… that’s the vibe going forward I guess!
